From Rental Frustration to Rental Solution

If you’ve ever struggled to find decent housing in Jamaica, we know the same struggle! 

Back in March 2016, I made the move from rural Jamaica to St. James, excited about new opportunities but completely unprepared for how difficult it would be to find a place to rent. Like most people, I was stuck waiting for the weekend newspaper, hoping something decent would be listed, then rushing to view properties that were often nothing like advertised.

There had to be a better way.

That frustration led me to start Placepikr on March 16, 2024. What began as a simple solution – making rental listings more accessible online – quickly grew into something bigger when I realized how many people were struggling with the same problems I had faced.

More Than Just Listings

As our Instagram community grew to over 24,000 followers on Instagram and Facebook, I started hearing about challenges that went far beyond just finding places to rent:

• Families being told “no kids allowed” and not knowing their rights
• People losing security deposits over normal wear and tear
• Renters dealing with boundary-crossing landlords
• First-time renters making expensive mistakes that could have been avoided

I also discovered that finding a place was just the beginning – people needed help with the actual moving process too. So we expanded into moving services, helping people transition from old homes to new ones.
